Having had Batman square off with Killer Moth and Harley Quinn leaves the Joker wide open for a new dancing partner. In this new Mighty Micros set, he goes toe to toe with a perhaps lesser known, but still popular foe, in Nightwing.
Being a former protege of Batman, Nightwing can be forgiven for borrowing a bit of his style from Bruce. His vehicle is very slick and sleek, which is no small feat given the highly diminutive size of these vehicles. It also makes use of quite a few lesser used parts, which helps to make it desirable as a parts pack.
Joker has a pretty standard ice cream truck as his whip. The shaping of the truck is well thought out, as it has a nice, deliberate mix of curves and hard angles. The best part of course is the ice cream cone detail atop the back of the truck – especially with its collection of useful constituent parts.
As is the case with the other Mighty Micros, the minifigures in 76093 Mighty Micros: Nightwing vs. The Joker are a lot of fun. In terms of the line as a whole, they all have a sense of fun and capriciousness. Still though, they feel a bit lacking. Their small size coupled with their appropriately small price tag is certainly appealing, but it’s hard not to wish there was a little more going on in terms of playability. Honestly, I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I think something like a spring-loaded pull back and release function, much like those in the early Racers sets, would add a lot to these. It would of course require a bit of re-engineering, particularly since many of the vehicles are quite top heavy. Still, I think it would add tremendously to the playability, which would perhaps mitigate the fact that some of the vehicles aren’t exactly curbside cuties.
Once again the minifigures appeal, but the vehicles so not quite live up to the potential that a line like Mighty Micros could reach.
