LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid includes biggest fan designer easter egg yet

LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera’s references have been confirmed – one of which only a few people will recognise.

Now that it has been revealed with a listing on LEGO.com, 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera‘s biggest Easter eggs have been confirmed after being named by a retailer earlier this week. Now that we have official images, we can see how these pictures compare as well as appreciate new insight from the fan designer behind this change.

The set’s three physical photographs depict, as you might have expected, specific people and places, but even the most studious Polaroid and LEGO enthusiasts will only recognise two of them.

The three photographs can be loaded into the camera to be realistically ejected as the set’s main feature. One of them references LEGO while another pays homage to Polaroid’s history and the last is specific to the fan designer and their family.

The first of these three photos is an Easter egg for the LEGO House in Billund. The attraction has unique architecture that is certainly worth taking a picture of, even though 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera isn’t functional by design.

Another of the pictures is of Polaroid inventor Doctor Edwin Herbert Land who founded Polaroid after inventing the new kind of polarizer. Representing Polaroid history, he deserves this spot in 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera.

The last image will likely be unfamiliar to most as this image is confirmed to be of fan designer Minibrick Productions’ sister, who inspired the creation that became the LEGO Ideas set. An interview with the fan designer from The Verge offers more insight into this Easter egg, confirming the city in the background as La Rochelle in France. This homage is included as the sister inspired the fan designer to recreate a Polaroid camera out of LEGO as she used one herself.

LEGO Ideas sets are no strangers to fan-inspired references to family or friends. However, this is arguably the most explicit and biggest fan designer Easter egg yet, playing an integral part in 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera‘s main feature.

21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera launches on January 1, 2024, for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99 and pre-orders are open now.

It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes.
