LEGO Ideas Pirates proposal sails towards success
A new project in the latest LEGO Ideas review round is proposing an interesting new Pirates set with plenty of potential for Easter eggs.
George Brickman is the latest member of LEGO Ideas’ 10K Club, offering a way for the theme to represent the classic Pirates range once more. LEGO Ideas’ history of pirate-adjacent sets has been extensive, from 21313 Ship in a Bottle to 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay and the more recent 21363 The Goonies.
There have been a few entries paying tribute to the classic LEGO Pirates theme, as well. That includes the full 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, and two minifigures in 21358 Minifigure Vending Machine. There’s always room for more Pirates in LEGO Ideas, though, as George Brickman is out to prove with their modular map model.
The 2,120-piece model depicts a 3D map made up of various island and ocean modules. They feature everything from pirate ships to sea monsters to forts and mountains. These can then be arranged into different islands on your own custom LEGO map.
It’s an interesting idea for a LEGO set, and it offers space for several Pirates Easter eggs in one model. The LEGO Group’s designers could replace one of the forts with a microscale 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay, add in a miniature The Thieves of Tortuga, and use prints to represent several classic LEGO pirate ships. It would result in a great tribute to LEGO Pirates’ history, old and new.
Despite the potential of this project, it only has a chance at success in the first LEGO Ideas review so far, joining 89 other submissions all aiming for an official set.
