Every LEGO Ideas set in production – April 2023

As the LEGO Group ticks another Ideas set off the list in 21340 Tales of the Space Age, here’s a reminder of everything else still to come from the crowdsourcing theme.

Two new LEGO Ideas sets have rolled out of Billund since our last update to the list of projects still in production, including 21339 BTS Dynamite and 21340 Tales of the Space Age – but that still leaves a total of 10 different sets still in development.

Between them, these future sets also represent a broad spectrum of paths to LEGO Ideas success, from traditional submissions that have racked up 10,000 votes on the crowdsourcing platform (and subsequently passed the review stage) to more unorthodox routes, including contest winners – and one set that had to come through a second-chance saloon.

Dive into the full list as it stands below. The current LEGO Ideas review has a record-breaking number of projects already, so there’s a good chance the theme’s slate will look very different by the end of 2023…

Tribute to Galileo Galilei

LEGO Ideas Galileo Tribute project 1024x576

The next LEGO Ideas gift-with-purchase will be a tribute to one of the greatest scientific minds in human history, based on a contest-winning entry by LEGO Ideas user Firecracker_. Their model took top prize in last summer’s STEM challenge, and will eventually be turned into a freebie at LEGO.com and LEGO Stores – perhaps sometime this year, if we’re lucky.

Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage

LEGO IDeas hocus pocus large 1024x627

We’re expecting to see Amber Veyt's Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage on shelves sometime in 2023, based on comments from LEGO Ideas designer James May. Given the subject matter, the safe money would be on a release in time for Halloween.

Viking Village

Another LEGO Ideas set that may see a release at some stage in 2023 – at least based on the typical timeline for projects to hit shelves – BrickHammer’s Viking Village was originally rejected by the review board, before being given a second chance in a poll in 2022. It should make a fine companion piece to 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent.

LEGO Insects

The newly-revealed 21340 Tales of the Space Age adds a fourth postcard-sized picture to Jan Woznica’s original design, so it’ll be interesting to see whether the LEGO Group also adds to (or perhaps takes away from) José María’s selection of brick-built insects to fit a particular price point. This was one of four projects given the green light in the first 2022 review.

The Orient Express, a Legendary Train

LEGO Ideas Orient Express featured 1024x576

LEGO Ideas’ first-ever train will tackle one of the most legendary locomotives of all time in the Orient Express, courtesy of Thomas Lajon’s stunning design. With one eye on the size and scope of this engine and carriage, we’re expecting a pretty hefty price tag for this set.

Polaroid OneStep SX-70

Another LEGO Ideas set that might be a little easier on the wallet – like 21340 Tales of the Space Age, which comes in at just £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 – Minibrick Productions’ Polaroid OneStep SX-70 will follow in the footsteps of 21327 Typewriter, recreating a real-world object in LEGO bricks.

Your Family Tree

LEGO Ideas Your Family Tree 5

LEGO Ideas veteran Ivan Guerrero (who was responsible for bringing 21324 123 Sesame Street to shelves) won first prize in Target’s contest to find a future set anchored around family. His very literal interpretation of a family tree will be available to buy… at some stage. Hard to say when at this point.

Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End

LEGO Ideas Dungeons Dragons Dragons Keep Journeys End featured 2 1024x576

Another contest winner destined to become a future set, Lucas Bolt’s tribute to 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons will presumably debut in 2024 to celebrate the tabletop roleplaying game’s major milestone. And it should be one for LEGO Castle fans, too…

Red Telephone Box

LEGO Ideas Red London Telephone Box featured 1024x576

One of two projects approved in the second 2022 review, John Cramp’s Red Telephone Box recreates a retro British icon. We’ll be keen to see whether the finished set maintains the same scale – and whether it also includes the accompanying post box and lamppost.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

LEGO Ideas The Nightmare Before Christmas 1 1024x576

2023 marks the 30th anniversary of The Nightmare Before Christmas, so while Simon Scott’s design was only given the green light in February, we can see the LEGO Group bumping it up ahead of other sets to get it on shelves in good time. It wouldn’t be the first time it’s fast-tracked a set this year: 21340 Tales of the Space Age was only approved in October 2022…
