Does 70612 Green Ninja Mech Dragon prove to be a solid model, translating its The LEGO NINJAGO Movie onscreen counterpart into LEGO set form? Price: £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 Pieces: 544 Available: Now 70612 Green Ninja Mech Dragon is the key hero set in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie range, as main character Lloyd's mech of choice. The set boasts multiple play functions packed into the build that comes with four minifigures including both the Green Ninja and his sworn enemy/father – Lord Garmadon. Dragons have been a hallmark of NINJAGO since the theme's very first product line back in 2011. In keeping with the changing waves, different models have reflected changing aesthetics. Some have obviously been mechanical, with others clearly organic, and still others blurring that line. 70612 continues that trend by giving fans something not seen in any previous incarnation – a wingless dragon. Lloyd's flying mount received pride of place in the film's first trailer with him dramatically, and fantastically, leaping from its back to slay a contingent of shark warriors. While smaller than the big screen virtual model, the essence of the mech has made the transfer to the official LEGO model. This accuracy in vibe is the only stand-out comment that 70612 Green Ninja Mech Dragon offers. As you read more of the Brick Fanatics reviews of The LEGO NINJAGO Movie range, you will realise that I built all of them in a marathon two day session, allowing me to get a rapid fire sense of each one in comparison to the others. The feeling that came to mind upon completing 70612 was apathy. It did not excite me, but neither did it register any negatives. 70612 Green Ninja Mech Dragon is neither impressive or disappointing. It is solid, but not stellar, value. [gallery size="large" columns="4" ids="21259,21258,21256,21255"] Fans of past NINJAGO dragons will surely find a lot to love about the Green Ninja Mech Dragon. The articulation, posability and gaping mouths that have been hallmarks of these dragon builds return in fine form. It seems that one of Lloyd's primary offensive weapons in the film is whip-lashing his ride's tail, as such a motion is 70612's primary play feature. Considering most of the other ninja vehicles rely entirely on ranged weapons this melee style combat is a nice contrast. I imagine 70612 will be popular with kids due to that feature being a lot of fun to play with. Something that is desirable to children is clearly what LEGO designers are going for and in that regard 70612 has a lot to offer. A solid assortment of minifigures, including the main bad guy himself, provide a lot of play value right out of the box. For AFOLs though, I would recommend this set only to those who have collected and enjoyed past dragons. With a variety of other more solid sets in the lineup, those precious pay cheques would be better spent elsewhere, as 70612 Greeen Ninja Mech Dragon does not stand out in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie lineup. 70612 Green Ninja Mech Dragon is available now at shop.LEGO.com.
