LEGO Star Wars 2023 UCS line-up looks increasingly mysterious

The LEGO Star Wars 2023 Ultimate Collector Series line-up is looking increasingly mysterious, as a rumoured piece count for a summer set places it in UCS territory – sort of.

Information surrounding next summer’s LEGO Star Wars sets continues to trickle out at a steady pace over on Instagram, where lego_minecraft_goat now claims 75371 – which is apparently due to retail for $199.99 in the US – will include a hefty 2,320 pieces. That would make it the 16th-biggest LEGO Star Wars set of all time, and certainly the biggest outside the Ultimate Collector Series.

That’s if this set doesn’t have the UCS badge, of course: at the moment, there’s nothing to say either way. But a different UCS set is already rumoured for May 2023, coming in at €239.99 – seemingly the new standard price point for May the Fourth flagship sets, following this year’s bump to the RRP of 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder – and the late-year window is typically reserved for a much bigger set, like 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina, 75313 AT-AT or 75331 The Razor Crest.

Where exactly a $199.99 set fits into the mix is difficult to say at this stage. The same source suggests it will be an 18+ product, so we’re not just looking at a bigger and more expensive playset – a separate $159.99 set will reportedly fill the gap left by 75315 Imperial Light Cruiser – but something targeted specifically towards adults. A new addition to the Diorama Collection seems unlikely at that size (based on the sets released so far), so perhaps we are indeed looking at a third UCS set for 2023.

It wouldn’t be the first time the LEGO Star Wars team has delivered three large 18+ sets in a single calendar year: 2021 saw 75308 R2-D2, 75309 Republic Gunship and 75313 AT-AT all arrive on shelves, although one of those was the result of a LEGO Ideas poll, and could be seen as a ‘bonus’ release.

But with so many massive LEGO Star Wars sets currently available – 75313 AT-AT, 75192 Millennium Falcon and 75331 The Razor Crest all command above £500 at retail – it’s also feasible that next year’s second and only UCS set will be smaller and more affordable.

That would be reflective too of the wider list of LEGO Star Wars sets rumoured for summer 2023, which generally skew slightly cheaper – at least as a collective wave – than previous years’ summer waves. Check out the updated list below, which also includes two newly-rumoured sets in 75362 and 75369.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then. You can follow me on Twitter at @brfa_chris.
