LEGO Technic 42154 2022 Ford GT is a ‘dream come true’ for its designer

LEGO designer Milan Reindl has shared his passion for the new Technic 42154 2022 Ford GT, describing it as a dream come true.

Arriving as part of the next LEGO Technic wave on March 1, 2023, 42154 2022 Ford GT is the third depiction of the car in bricks and the first ever in Technic. A recent interview with designer Milan Reindl has revealed insight from the development process of this set, including the close collaboration with Ford and how this set is on Milan’s bucket list.

“When I started here, it was on my bucket list to do the Ford GT as an official set,” explains Milan. “It’s one of my passion points and I’m a big fan of the car, so working on something that you truly love makes it a bigger responsibility.

“I tried so many times and so many different approaches for all the subsections of the build – just to get the proportions and parts looking as close as possible to the real car. I was still changing bits on the front of the model the very last day before the approval!”

The designer went on to describe some of the features of 42154 2022 Ford GT and how some are unique to the vehicle and its Technic model.

“You can open the engine cover, you can open the hood, you can open the doors, which open in a very signature way for Ford,” Milan says. “Inside, the six-cylinder piston engine is just crammed between the rear axle and the seats, like in the real car.”

“A feature that’s unique to this is, when you pull on a lever inside the build, the rear spoiler wing raises.”

While different versions of the Ford GT have been depicted in LEGO before, none have featured opening doors, due to them being from Speed Champions and a lot smaller in size.

“If you look back at the portfolio of Ford GTs, the dark blue is a very classic color and that’s something we really wished for from the beginning.” Milan continues.

One of the most interesting sections of the interview notes the collaboration between the LEGO Group’s design team and Ford with Milan even seeing 42154 2022 Ford GT next to the real car.

“To be honest, what I liked the most about this was the overall cooperation with the Ford Motor Company,” Milan describes. “It was great to work together, like a dream come true.

“The LEGO model captures the shape of the real Ford GT extremely well. They look like a father and a son together.”

42154 2022 Ford GT launches on March 1, 2023, for £104.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 alongside three other Technic creations that you can read about by clicking here.
