Marvel Animation’s next series after X-Men ’97 may be familiar

Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 has only just ended but we may already know which project is next to come from the division of Marvel Studios.

X-Men ’97’s first season ended earlier this week and while a second season has been confirmed, it won’t be the next project from Marvel Animation, unsurprisingly. Instead. the next project coming to Disney+ may be even more familiar than the follow-up to the classic X-Men series.

What If…?Season Three is — that might be the one that comes out next, in terms of animation,” Executive producer and Marvel Studios head of TV, streaming, and animation Brad Winderbaum revealed to Comicbook.com.

“That is the culmination of a trilogy. We’re actually close to completing that one, and it really feels like you’ve gone through this amazing emotional experience with Uatu, in a way that’s… What’s great about The Watcher is that he presents himself as uncaring, cold and just an observer, but he cares more than everybody and anybody. That is on full display in that third season.”

A clip and first look at the third season of the multiversal Marvel series has been revealed previously and it appears that work has been progressing behind the scenes.

Notably, this series has had the most LEGO Marvel representation to date through five minifigures in both LEGO Marvel Collectible Minifigure series as well as a pair of sets relating to both seasons.

Given that 76194 Tony Stark’s Sakaarian Iron Man was intended to be based on the first season until the episode was delayed, whether there could be any further representation for the third season is up for debate. A pair of mechs perfect for LEGO sets have already been spotted though.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
