The mystery of the six LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures

A total of six LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures are on the way in 2024, but even amid rumours and reveals, deducing the full line-up is proving a tricky task…

The LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary celebrations finally kicked off yesterday, with the official reveal of five new sets for this year, including three midi-scale models. The LEGO Star Wars 25-Second Film Festival also commences from March 1 and a 1:1 scale R2-D2 build will be travelling across Europe and the US throughout 2024.

One of the highlights of the LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary will be the inclusion of a selection of collectible minifigures that have never been seen before in LEGO form. Two of those characters have already been revealed, with 75379 R2-D2 featuring a Darth Malak minifigure and ARC Trooper Fives included with 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV.

Both minifigures are based on characters from the wider Star Wars canon of video games and TV shows, with each accompanied by a printed LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary tile and black brick-built stand.

That currently leaves four more minifigures that have yet to be revealed at this point, presenting us with a mystery as to who they might actually be. Despite rumours swirling regarding some potential candidates, there have been no official announcements from the LEGO Group regarding the rest of the 25th anniversary line-up.

However, one additional hint was revealed earlier this week, with the official LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary landing page stating, ‘Harnessing the power of the Force and… well… our designers… we’re releasing a big batch of special sets in our 25th year, including SIX limited-edition LEGO Star Wars minifigures!’

The announcement was accompanied by links to find out more about the Darth Malak and ARC Trooper Fives minifigures, as well as a silhouette of a third character. Clicking on the cryptic link presents a shadowy image of what might well be the rumoured 75383 Sith Infiltrator, with the mystery minifigure accompanying the set merely referred to as being a ‘rebel with a cause’.

Early clues and initial speculation pointed in the direction of Saw Gerrera, who has shown up in almost every corner of the Star Wars universe over the past decade but has yet to receive a minifigure. Instagram user 1414falconfan now claims that Saw will indeed be included in 75383 Sith Infiltrator, complete with a cape and armour. That’s three down, three to go.

The rumour mill has tossed out potential identities for two more LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures in young Leia (from the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series) and Jedi: Fallen Order’s Cal Kestis, who are said to arrive in 75392 and 75394 respectively. Little is known about the former set beyond that it might be a creature build, while the latter is thought to be a Death Star playset.

If those are true, it would leave one final spot yet to be claimed. But while the wording on the LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary landing page would seem to suggest all six limited edition minifigures will be included in ‘special sets’ this year, there’s a possibility that one might also be available with an upcoming DK book.

The updated LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary will include an exclusive new minifigure when it’s published on April 2, 2024, and a retailer description says it will feature ‘special 25th anniversary printing’. The question is: would that make it one of the six 25th-anniversary minifigures to which the LEGO.com blurb refers?

Neither Malak nor Fives feature ‘25th anniversary printing’, instead leaving the logo to their accompanying tile and stand. If the Visual Dictionary minifigure features the logo on the back of the torso (for example), in the same way as the 20th-anniversary minifigures, perhaps it will be considered separate from the collection of characters included in sets.

That would mean we’re still looking for clues to that elusive sixth minifigure, but one potential candidate could be Infinities Darth Vader, who is said to be included in the rumoured 75389 Dark Millennium Falcon. The rest of that set’s alternate-reality character roster is supposedly comprised of dark-side versions of heroes like Rey, Chewbacca and C-3PO, leaving redeemed Vader – in a white suit – as the only one flipping from the dark side to light.

It could be that Vader is simply the set’s ‘antagonist’ to offer conflict play, and initial rumours didn’t single him out as a 25th-anniversary character in the same way as Fives and Malak. But Infinities Darth Vader, who originally appeared in a comic book in 2004, feels like a character pulled straight from the same obscure depths of Star Wars lore as Knights of the Old Republic’s Darth Malak. So while it’s not nailed on, we could see him being part of the super six.

If he isn’t, though, the LEGO Group still has one more chance to surprise us in 2024 (current rumours in mind). It could be through a book – or it could be through any one of the rumoured sets not yet said to feature a 25th-anniversary minifigure, given initial reports of 75383 Sith Infiltrator neglected to mention Saw (or a 25th-anniversary character) at all.

At this point, that all remains pure speculation for now, until such time as we have confirmation from the LEGO Group. We’ll no doubt discover exactly who the remaining mystery LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures are in the months to come, as the year-long celebration of the theme continues.
