New LEGO Marvel products aren’t entirely accurate

Some of the newest LEGO Marvel items on LEGO.com aren’t entirely accurate, reusing a minifigure last depicting a comic character.

854240 Iron Man Keyring and 854241 Scarlet Witch Keyring are releasing on February 1, 2023, to add a Marvel touch to your keys, bags or other items. However, there’s something not quite right in both keyrings.

854241 Scarlet Witch uses the last Scarlet Witch minifigure from 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum, a minifigure that is based on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This movie is not part of the Infinity Saga collection of films like the cardboard packaging of 854241 Scarlet Witch suggests. It could be that this recent Scarlet Witch minifigure is in place of one based on a previous movie, though she only gained this outfit in WandaVision, which is also not part of the Infinity Saga.

The same logo is used on 854240 Iron Man Keyring, though this minifigure appears to be inspired by the Mark 42 suit from Iron Man 3. While the logo isn’t necessarily an issue, the minifigure could be as it is missing detail from that suit – the gold chin.

That specific aspect is likely excluded due to this minifigure being reused from 76203: Iron Man Mech Armor. This mech isn’t part of any specific movie’s range, instead using the generic Avengers and Marvel branding, like that of other comic-inspired sets.

As specific as these inaccuracies are, they likely won’t dissuade those who want a LEGO Scarlet Witch or Iron Man on their bag or keys. You can look forward to getting both at the start of February for £4.99 / $5.99 / €5.99 each.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
