New LEGO NINJAGO series confirmed for 2023

A brand new series of LEGO NINJAGO is on the way in 2023 – and the showrunners have confirmed that it won’t be a reboot.

NINJAGO co-creator Tommy Andreasen has previously compared the current season (this summer’s Crystalized) to Avengers: Endgame in scope, while promotional materials for LEGO CON teased a ‘grand finale’ for the series – leading to speculation in some corners of the internet that the theme (or at least its tie-in TV show) may be wrapping up permanently in 2022.

We now know that’s definitely not the case, however, as the NINJAGO team has confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con’s LEGO Entertainment panel that a brand new season of the animated series will debut in 2023. According to The Brick Fan, no other details were shared – beyond the fact that it’s ‘not a reboot’, suggesting Crystalized may not have quite as big an impact as previously thought.

Otherwise, the language used by the NINJAGO team (including writer Chris Wyatt and director Asa Tait) was not incredibly revealing: the new 2023 series is said to be ‘all new and all different in exciting ways’. In what will be the LEGO theme’s 13th year on shelves, that’s maybe to be expected, but we’ll have to wait until next year to learn the full extent of those differences.

In the meantime, you’ll be able to catch the second half of LEGO NINJAGO Crystalized on Netflix in October, while this summer’s NINJAGO sets are available now in the UK and Europe, and will launch on August 1 in the US.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I won’t be able to believe it when Ninjago ends. It’s the longest-running and by far best Lego tv show out there. A part of me wishes it could go on forever.

I think something that would be worth trying out for this incoming season is having it 2D animated by Flying Bark!! They’re working on LEGO Monkie Kid and they do such a fantastic job. I think NINJAGO could only benefit from having a dynamic, punchy style like what they bring to the table!
