The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks book set for wide release in 2024

A wide release for a previously crowdfunded book will take place later this year, with The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks soon available to all.

Back in 2020, the LEGO Group partnered with specialist publisher Unbound to offer fans the chance to grab a unique book. The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks included a comprehensive look at LEGO elements and was successfully crowdfunded by 3,660 backers in 2021, with the completed book then released as a limited edition title in November 2022.

During the creation of the book, author Daniel Konstanski kept backers updated with regular posts on the LEGO Ideas blog, detailing a selection of the the title’s many anecdotal stories. The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks campaign also offered its supporters a number of special rewards, such as a 3D-printed pogo stick prototype that’s currently selling for eye-watering prices on the secondary market.

The good news for those that missed out on the first officially-licensed book for adult fans is that The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks: The Inside Story of a Design Icon (as it’s now called) will be getting a wider release later this year. The 400-page hardcover launches on September 14, 2024 with a different cover treatment and the same internal content, although none of the backer rewards will be included.

For The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks: The Inside Story of a Design Icon, Daniel Konstanski was given unprecedented access to LEGO designers, executives and personal. The book features plenty of deep dive content, including a look at unreleased product lines such as LEGO Band Booster and many rare pictures from the LEGO archives.

The Secret Life of LEGO Bricks: The Inside Story of a Design Icon will be available from all the usual book retailers on September 14, 2024 and is currently priced at £30.
