The incredibly detailed new set, 70620 NINJAGO City, is packed with minifigures – but it is so big, that it still doesn’t contain enough characters to reflect the bustling location from The LEGO NINJAGO Movie. In case you have not yet read the Brick Fanatics review, spoiler alert: you should absolutely get this set – then pick up these ten Collectible Minifigures to really complete it and, improbably, improve on perfection.
Having the ninja wander around in their regular clothes is really important. They all live in NINJAGO City, ready to don their ninja outfits and spring into action at the first sign of Garmadon’s latest scheme. The great thing about Jay Walker is that the minifigure has the character taking a selfie, really selling the idea that he is just taking a casual stroll.
This is the most important minifigure on the list. In 70620 NINJAGO City, one minifigure has to double up as the chef and the waiter – which is no good. The sushi restaurant is such a key feature of the set, prominently displayed on the rooftop, that someone is needed for the kitchen full time. There is no need to put out an ad, it cannot be a coincidence that the Sushi Chef is included in the Collectible Minifigure line-up.
Gong and Guitar Rocker
This minifigure can be used in a variety of ways in 70620 NINJAGO City – shopping for a new guitar in the eclectic store, gigging at the sushi restaurant or busking in the Old Town. It’s another minifigure that can add an extra sense of life to the set.
It will not surprise any fan of LEGO NINJAGO where Master Wu belongs, as 70620 NINJAGO City includes a tea room. The wizened mentor has a particular fondness for tea, and is right at home visiting the relaxing spot.
This cheerful character would fit in anywhere in 70620 NINJAGO City, but perhaps seems most at home shopping in the store. N-POP Girl would look equally well situated enjoying some sushi or rummaging for Unikitty merchandise in the comic book store.
Another ninja who looks great casually wandering the streets of the city, Cole can placed on the walkways listening to his favourite tunes. Like Jay Walker, adding Cole to the set gives the impression that much of the time, the ninja are just going about their lives.
Looking less at home than his fellow ninja, Zane seems a little too over prepared for a casual stroll down the NINJAGO City street with his rucksack. That noted, it probably reflects his personality that he would be carrying more than he needs for a simple walk around the block.
Sure, this minifigure is most obviously at home in a lab based setting, but her Batman t-shirt underneath the lab coat reveals where she is likely to head on the way home from work. GPL Tech is the perfect customer to be calling into the 70620 NINJAGO City comic book store to read about the Dark Knight’s latest exploits.
As Lloyd’s apartment is included in 70620 NINJAGO City, it is only right to also include his breakfast bowl. Yes, Lloyd comes with the set, but as well as this version having his hood up, he also comes with spoon and bowl accessories so he can enjoy the most important meal of the day.
Spinjitzu Training Nya
Adding little story elements to a large set like this adds to the fascination that others will have in looking at it, spotting such little details. A carefully placed Nya, practicing her ninja skills in the back of the Old Town, immediately conveys the idea of her sneaking out of her home to go and perfect her moves in the least populated part of town.
