WATCH: LEGO Star Wars team explains why 75309 Republic Gunship was a ‘nightmare’ to design
Take a deep dive into the design of the newly-announced LEGO Star Wars 75309 Republic Gunship with the LEGO Group’s Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Hans Burkhard Schlömer.
Brick Fanatics had the chance to sit down with both members of the LEGO Star Wars design team ahead of today’s reveal to chat all things Gunship, including how the duo decided which minifigures to include – and how the shape of the ship was an absolute ‘nightmare’ to design.
You can hear what Jens and Hans had to say about the set’s development by hitting play on the video below, or heading over to Brick Fanatics’ YouTube channel.
That’s not the full extent of our 75309 Republic Gunship coverage, though: we’ve also got a full, early and in-depth review of the set right here, along with a full explanation of the error that’s plaguing the first batch of boxes and instruction manuals (and the LEGO Group’s response!).
The 3,292-piece 75309 Republic Gunship will launch on August 1, alongside 10279 Volkswagen T2 Camper Van – also revealed this week – for £329.99 / $349.99 / €349.99. There’s no early VIP access for either of those sets, but it’s not all bad: that does give you a couple of extra weeks to save up…

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
