212th Clone Trooper minifigure rumoured for future issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine

A future issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine is rumoured to include a 212th Clone Trooper, offering a cheap and easy way to army-build the summer 2022 minifigure.

The official LEGO Star Wars magazine is going from strength to strength at the moment, constantly and consistently including rare, valuable and even retired minifigures on its front cover. Recent issues have featured Darth Maul from 75310 Duel on Mandalore, the Mandalorian Loyalist from 75316 Mandalorian Starfighter and Princess Leia from 75301 Luke Skywalker’s X-wing Fighter.

The latest issue, meanwhile, includes Luke Skywalker in his Hoth fatigues – only otherwise available in 75298 AT-AT vs. Tauntaun Microfighters and 75340 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar – and the next issue will feature Bo-Katan Kryze, also from 75316 Mandalorian Starfighter. In short, these magazines are killing the LEGO Star Wars minifigure aftermarket.

That’s no bad thing for most of us, as it makes these fan-favourite characters more easily accessible. The same will apparently soon be true for the new 212th Clone Trooper, which is currently only available in 75337 AT-TE Walker. The 1,082-piece set includes three of the orange-tinted troopers, but it’s still an expensive way to build up your army (unless you go to the trouble of selling off the rest of the set).

According to Promobricks, a future issue of the LEGO Star Wars magazine – potentially Issue 93, which is due on shelves in the UK in March – will include a 212th Clone Trooper. Given the magazine typically retails for £4.25 in the UK, that’s a far cheaper option than amassing multiple copies of 75337 AT-TE Walker, and also cheaper than buying 212th Clone Troopers individually from BrickLink.

The Republic soldiers are fetching an average of £11 new at the moment, while current minifigures for sale start at roughly £8 on the secondary marketplace. If Issue 93 of the LEGO Star Wars magazine does include a 212th Clone Trooper, there’s a good chance that price will come down, in the same way it has for Luke Skywalker in his Bespin gear.

That minifigure – otherwise released exclusively in 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City and 75294 Bespin Duel – debuted in the LEGO Star Wars magazine in 2020, and can now be acquired for less than £5 new on BrickLink. In lieu of a 212th Clone Troopers battle pack, its presence in the official LEGO Star Wars magazine could just be the next best thing.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
