Is a new LEGO Friends TV show set coming in May 2021?

The rumoured follow-up to 2019’s LEGO Ideas Friends set 21319 Central Perk may be coming as soon as next month.

While clarifying that the also-rumoured LEGO Marvel Daily Bugle won’t be arriving until June, Instagram user tandnbricks claimed that an entirely different set would be ‘releasing early in May’. They then published a subsequent post reporting that ‘Friends comes first’.

Previous rumours have suggested that we’re going to see a follow-up to 21319 Central Perk later this year, building on the apparent success of the 2019 sitcom-inspired set – which has continually dropped out of stock at LEGO.com since release, indicating it’s proved very popular with the LEGO Group’s audience.

According to Brick Fanatics’ sources, 21319 Central Perk is also not due to retire until the end of 2022 at the very earliest, which is a pretty long shelf life for any LEGO Ideas set. And it means that should this rumoured second set materialise next month, it will sit side-by-side with its predecessor on shelves.

More importantly, it will also mark the first time a LEGO Ideas set has spawned a direct in-house spin-off since 2014’s 21108 Ghostbusters ECTO-1 paved the way for 75827 Firehouse Headquarters in 2016. That tallies with recent comments from the design team that the LEGO Group is ‘looking for the next Minecraft’, an entire theme spawned from a single Ideas set.

We’ll bring you more on the rumoured Friends set as and when we get it. In the meantime, 21319 Central Perk – a mainstay in Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO Sets List since launch – is now available to order from LEGO.com.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
