Sheffield Bricktropolis arrives today with LEGO space models
Today sees the launch of Sheffield Bricktropolis, a LEGO visitor trail that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing.
Anyone in Sheffield, UK today will notice that LEGO models have appeared around the town centre. To celebrate 50 years since the Apollo Moon landing, the city has introduced a series of LEGO models inspired by the event that will be on display until August 30.
In total there are 16 models to find on the interstellar trail. There is a model of Neil Armstrong that stands 1.9m tall and uses 57,000 bricks. The Apollo 11 build is 2.8m tall and uses 68,583 bricks. Other displays include the first flag on the Moon, a friendly alien and planets from our solar system.
To follow the trail and get the most out of it, visitors should download the Sheffield Bricktropolis app. Using it, they can scan each model to reveal fun facts about the subject matter. Those who scan every model will be entered into a draw to win prizes including a trip to the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort.
Later in the year the BRICKLIVE Outer Space exhibition will head to Leicester.
Sheffield Bricktropolis is running from August 17 until August 30.
