LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga protects Baby Yoda at all costs
Here’s some comforting news to start your week: Grogu can come to no harm in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
We’ve been playing TT Games’ long-awaited title for a couple of days now, giving us the opportunity to try out some of its downloadable character packs – including the first one based on The Mandalorian, which introduces Din Djarin, Greef Karga, Cara Dune, IG-11 and Kuill as playable characters, along with Grogu (or Baby Yoda) as a non-playable companion character for Mando.
That means you can’t directly control Grogu, who mainly floats around harmlessly in his hovering pram while Mando wreaks havoc in Otoh Gunga (or wherever you choose to unleash the bounty hunter in Free Play mode). But the developers over at TT Games are clearly aware of how precious Baby Yoda is, and how he must be protected at all costs, because he can never come to any harm.
Completely by accident – we promise we weren’t trying to shoot Baby Yoda – we discovered, while firing absent-mindedly at Gungans with Din Djarin (there’s a score to settle, for sure), that any stray blasts towards Grogu’s pram will cause it to close up, preventing any laser fire from reaching the little green companion character.
Tiny, thoughtful touches like these are spread throughout LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – at least from the handful of levels we’ve played through so far – and there are no doubt plenty more to be discovered as we get to grips with the enormous, ambitious game. You’ll be able to dig into it for yourself from tomorrow, when it finally launches across all major platforms.
If you haven’t already, you can pre-order the Deluxe Edition – with a free Blue Milk Luke minifigure polybag – from LEGO.com in the UK now. For more on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, check out our dedicated page.

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
