LEGO Super Mario 18+ set rumoured for December 2023
A fourth LEGO Super Mario 18+ set is rumoured to be on the way next year, but we’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands yet.
For the past three years in a row, the LEGO Group has launched a huge Nintendo-themed set in the second half of the year. 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System dropped in August 2020, 71395 Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block arrived in October 2021, and 71411 The Mighty Bowser roared on to the scene in October 2022. Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat claims that next year’s 18+ set won’t arrive until December, however.
That’s a full year away at the time of writing, making this one of the earliest rumours in recent memory – not that there’s much to go on at the moment. The same source reports the set will carry the product number 71426, which follows the first six rumoured LEGO Super Mario summer 2023 sets sequentially, but hasn’t specified a piece count, price tag or any hints of what it could encompass.
The three LEGO Super Mario 18+ sets to date have each brought something new to the table, whether in a replica of a real-world object, a giant buildable character or a huge yellow cube packed with microscale dioramas. That’s reflective of the approach also taken by LEGO Harry Potter, which has so far delivered four very different direct-to-consumer sets, and suggests we should probably expect the unexpected from LEGO Super Mario in 2023.

Given how great 71411 The Mighty Bowser looks, though, we’d be content with just another massive buildable character. Donkey Kong, anyone?

- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
