LEGO Icons 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell officially revealed
The LEGO Group has officially revealed its biggest Middle-earth set to date in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, a staggering display model with more than 6,000 pieces.
Collecting together every member of the Fellowship of the Ring – and then some – within a single box, 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell includes 6,167 pieces and 15 minifigures. The final model measures in at a colossal 72cm wide, 39cm tall and 50cm deep, and comes with the price tag to match: £429.99 in the UK, $499.99 in the US and €499.99 in Europe.
That’s higher than the other big medieval set currently on shelves (10305 Lion Knights’ Castle), and equivalent to last year’s 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition. But for LEGO The Lord of the Rings fans with deep pockets, it may prove to be a worthwhile price to pay for what looks like the best Middle-earth set to come out of Billund so far.
10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell also marks the full return of the Tolkien franchise following January’s three LEGO BrickHeadz sets, one of which will be free for early adopters of the LEGO Icons set. According to the press release, VIP members who purchase the set between March 5 and 7 will receive a bonus copy of 40630 Frodo & Gollum.
“We know many of our fans have been anticipating a set like this for a long-time – but a great LEGO The Lord of the Rings set is never late, it arrives precisely when it means to!” said LEGO Design Master Mike Psiaki. “It was important to us that we created something really special in this recreation of Rivendell.
“We aimed to add as much detail as possible and create an engaging experience throughout the build to delight fans recreating scenes or proudly displaying Elrond’s home. We are really pleased with the final design and how we have brought Rivendell to life in brick form.”
10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell combines various elements of the elven kingdom – including the Council Ring, Frodo’s bedroom, Elrond’s study, an elven tower, a gazebo, bridge and river – across three separate buildable sections. The model is populated by 15 minifigures, including Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Elrond, Arwen, Bilbo, Gloin and two generic elves.
It’s also filled with new pieces representing weapons unique to Tolkien’s world, including Sting, the broken shards of Narsil, Boromir’s sword, dwarven axes and elvish blades. You’ll be able to experience everything 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell has to offer in just a few short weeks. Keep an eye out for our review before then.
10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell launches March 5 for VIP members, and March 8 for everyone else, for £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99.

Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
