Plans for LEGOLAND Belgium park have reportedly been scrapped

Previously revealed plans for a LEGOLAND park in Charleroi, Belgium by 2027 are reported to have been scrapped by Merlin Entertainments.

As reported by vrt.be, the plans for a LEGOLAND park in Belgium are said to have been cancelled. According to Walloon Minister of Economy Willy Borsus, Merlin Entertainments is reviewing its international activities and strategy with existing parks being prioritised over new locations.

The report claims that a representative of Merlin Entertainments explained, “Merlin Entertainments has strategically decided to shift the focus to investments in our current Legoland Resorts, including the three parks planned to open in China in 2025.”

Charleroi mayor Paul Magnette expressed regret over the announcement on Twitter.

The park would have created over 1,000 jobs and covered 90 hectares of land, with 20 reserved for future development. It represented an investment of €370-400 million and was in immediate proximity to a catchment area of 21 million potential visitors.

Other LEGOLAND parks continue to receive attention from Merlin Entertainments, including a new Miniland area in California and MYTHICA in Deutschland
