Bits N’ Bricks podcast Episode 5 focuses on LEGO fan power

The latest episode of the Bits N’ Bricks podcast delves into the role LEGO fans play in the digital arena.

It’s the fifth instalment in the ongoing podcast series, which aims to celebrate 25 years of LEGO video games. Videogame journalist and Polygon co-founder Brian Crecente and documentarian and filmmaker Ethan Vincent are on hosting duties.

From LEGO Digital Designer through to the LEGO Group’s collaboration with Unity for its new Microgame creation system, the newest episode covers all the ways in which the company has enabled fans to take part in and shape its digital spaces.

Last week’s instalment focused on the classic video game LEGO Island. You can find five major takeaways from that illuminating episode here, including how developers Mindscape avoided paying staff bonuses. (Hint: it wasn’t with much regard for ethics.)

According to the original press release, the next entry in the Bits N’ Bricks podcast will focus on the LEGO Builder’s Journey. We’ll have to wait until next week to find out what exactly that entails…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
