First look at LEGO Super Mario 71380 Master Your Adventure Maker Set

An early review has given us a first glimpse at the possibilities on offer in LEGO Super Mario 71380 Master Your Adventure Maker Set.

The biggest expansion pack of the LEGO Super Mario 2021 wave takes the same sandbox approach as 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course, delivering a variety of enemies and environmental hazards for digital Mario to encounter. You’ll still need a copy of 71360 to do anything with the new set, though, because it doesn’t actually include the iconic Nintendo character himself.

What it does include is Larry Koopa, a Goomba, Bob-omb and Koopa Paratroopa, along with a special start pipe that cuts your play time to just 30 seconds. But that’s not all: there’s also a brand new customisation tool that allows you to change the effects of three Time and Item Blocks. Add it all up, and you’ve got plenty of new ways to customise your brick-built levels.

YouTuber Ashnflash has provided a first look at the set in his early review, and he’s full of enthusiasm for the possibilities 71380 Master Your Adventure Maker Set brings to the table.

“This thing is incredible,” he says. “This takes building your own level to a whole other level. It is insane what you are actually able to do in this set. I was dumbfounded when I was watching it unfold in front of me and seeing the actual play features in action. It’s crazy.”

Ashnflash also shows off the new poison ability, introduced in the purple biomes throughout the 2021 wave. If an Item Block – or purple plate – poisons Mario, you can shake the figure to earn a coin. Alternatively, simply walking him through a blue biome will remove the negative status effect.

71380 Master Your Adventure Maker Set will launch on January 1, 2021 for £49.99 / $59.99 / €58.48. You can view more images and details of the set here. It’s not the only LEGO Super Mario set launching in the new year, though:  three new expansion packstwo new Power-Up Packs, and a second series of Character Packs are also on the way.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then. You can follow me on Twitter at @brfa_chris.
