How fans inspired The LEGO Movie

AFOLs are well aware that fan films and brickfilms helped inform The LEGO Movie and its subsequent spin-offs and in this video Vox looks at just how far back fans have been influencing the LEGO Group with stop motion animation .

Animal Logic Production Designer Grant Freckleton talks about the thought behind the design of The LEGO Movie. Not only does the video highlight the importance of fan films, but draws a distinction between the earlier LEGO animated ventures and the stop motion style used in The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie. This behind the scenes video also highlights some of the Easter eggs in The LEGO Movie that nod to early 1980s brickfilms, including Finn’s ‘magic portal’.
