Is this the future of buying LEGO?

To celebrate International LEGO Day, Zavvi is launching a brand new shopping experience that could give us a glimpse at the future of buying LEGO.

Because time is a loop and everything comes back into fashion eventually, Zavvi is today hosting what sounds like the equivalent of a livestreamed shopping channel, exclusively through the OOOOO app. There’ll be savings on selected hard-to-find sets, giveaways, bonus discounts and more, alongside a deep dive into specific sets with insight from LEGO designers.

Essentially: imagine if the LEGO Group had its own version of QVC, tailored specifically towards selling sets, bricks and minifigures. At the moment, buying LEGO (in a way that makes your money go furthest) mainly involves waiting for double VIP points or gifts-with-purchase at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores, or taking advantage of discounts through third-party retailers.

Zavvi’s event should offer a very different way to buy sets, but for it to have any traction, it’s probably going to need to deliver genuinely great discounts. That shouldn’t be too hard given the online retailer is the exclusive third-party home of sets like 75309 Republic Gunship and 10295 Porsche 911 – and if it can offer savings on those sets alongside providing some cool behind-the-scenes insight, it should make for a worthwhile experience.

If you want to check it out for yourself, you’ll need to download the OOOOO app to a compatible smartphone or tablet, then tune in at 1pm and 7pm UK time for each of Zavvi’s shows. The first one will be geared towards family-friendly themes and sets, while the second will focus exclusively on LEGO for Adults products across themes like Star Wars and Creator Expert.

Brick Fanatics’ YouTube Editor Matthew Loffhagen will be co-hosting the show alongside a representative from the LEGO Group. You can find out more about what to expect by hitting play on the video below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
