It’s official: LEGO Marvel 76191 Infinity Gauntlet has set a new record for the LEGO Group

Just as we suspected it might, LEGO Marvel 76191 Infinity Gauntlet has officially set a new record for the LEGO Group.

The summer 2021 Marvel set – revealed just days ago – is covered from head to toe (or, more accurately, fingertip to wrist) in drum lacquered gold elements, with early images suggesting it could well take the crown for the most in one set from Monkie Kid’s 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech.

Brickset has now managed to track down an early copy of the set for review, and in the process has confirmed that 76191 Infinity Gauntlet has indeed swept aside that monkey mech in its quest for gold. Where the Monkie Kid model includes just(!) 119 drum lacquered elements, Thanos’s blingy accessory packs in a whopping 153 gold pieces.

That most certainly makes it the one to beat, though save any more in-house ideas like 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech, it’s difficult to think of any licensed property with a potentially shinier build than 76191 Infinity Gauntlet.

As Brickset’s review reveals, however, the use of drum lacquered gold doesn’t continue on to the palm of the gauntlet. Instead, all 153 pieces – including curved tiles, slopes, ingots and more – are concentrated on the back of the glove, which means there’s really only one way round you’ll want to display it.

76191 Infinity Gauntlet will launch on August 1 in the US and June 1 in all other regions for £59.99 / $69.99.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
