LEGO fans are judging 10326 Natural History Museum by its cover

The fan response to LEGO Icons 10326 Natural History Museum has been largely positive, aside from one area in particular.

Since LEGO Icons 10326 Natural History Museum’s reveal, LEGO fans have been quick to share their excitement. An earlier release date, the first 48×32 baseplate since 10255 Assembly Square, and a monolithic focus on one building make 10326 Natural History Museum stand out from other Modular Buildings. It’s no surprise then that the initial reception online has been overwhelmingly positive.

Plus, people are excited about the earlier release date of 10326 Natural History Museum – largely because it means it can be added to Christmas wishlists.

However, with a set of such size and detail, there will always be areas where LEGO fans can see improvements. One common area that many people are criticising is the exterior colour. 10326 Natural History Museum features an olive-green facade, with brown and white details and white marble-style pillars.

“I don’t think the green color is doing it any [favours],” commented one reddit user, with several more agreeing in turn.

“The green kind of has haunted house vibes; a limestone yellow or granite grey might have looked more grand,” added someone else. “I pictured it being more like the American Natural History Museum in New York or the British Museum.”

Even fans of the colour disliked its use in 10326 Natural History Museum, with one commenter adding: “I’m a sucker for olive green (spooky Victorian arsenic-laced paint) but yeah this feels like an inappropriate use.”

Looking at real-life museums, it’s true that the majority of major museums tend to be white, cream, or beige. Still, most jazz clubs aren’t dark red and most houses aren’t bright blue as in 10270 Bookshop. The brick-built world of LEGO Modular Buildings tend to be more colourful and vibrant than the real world; that’s the beauty of building a miniature world full of fun scenes and details that we don’t have in real life.

Whatever your opinions on the outside, we couldn’t help but be impressed by the interior of the museum. You can see more details of 10326 Natural History Museum’s exhibits and rooms here (seeing as images of the interior surprisingly lacking in the initial reveal and press release). Pre-orders are now open for the latest LEGO Icons set, with 10326 Natural History Museum shipping from December 1 for £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
