LEGO Lord of the Rings set should take a leaf out of 71043 Hogwarts Castle

If rumours are true about a LEGO Lord of the Rings return in 2023, we’re hoping one set follows in the footsteps of 71043 Hogwarts Castle.

According to unconfirmed reports, next year could see not just a return to the LEGO Lord of the Rings theme, but also an enormous set exploring the Elvish city of Rivendell. The rumoured 10316 Rivendell would cost $500 and, while there are no details about a piece count or number of minifigures, that price tag means it’s likely to be a huge set.

As a city, Rivendell features throughout both the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies, under the watchful eye of Lord Elrond. That means that it could be frozen in LEGO bricks at a number of points along the timeline, needing specific features and minifigures to date it.

However, if the set took a leaf out of LEGO Harry Potter 71043 Hogwarts Castle, it could straddle a number of time periods. 71043 included the Whomping Willow and flying car from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the pink-walled office of Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, and the life-sized chess set from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

In the same way, if proved to be true, 10316 Rivendell could easily feature a number of iconic moments. Include Thorin and his troop of dwarves to connect it to the Hobbit, add minifigures from the Fellowship to hook in The Fellowship of the Ring, and feature the White Ship that takes Frodo to the Undying Lands, and you’ve managed to cover decades of time in Middle Earth.

Of course, there’s no confirmation that this LEGO Lord of the Rings set will ever come to be, or that the theme will be revived at all. Until we get confirmation from the LEGO Group, we can only speculate.

The Last Ship left from the Grey Havens, another elvish capital hundreds of miles away. An ocean going vessel wouldn’t make sense in a landlocked area in the foothills of a mountain range.
It’d be like adding Yoda to a Death Star set.

The Whomping Willow and the flying car are from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, not the Prisoner of Azkaban.
