Rumoured LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promo breaks tradition

The LEGO Star Wars May the 4th gift-with-purchase for 2024 is rumoured to break a longstanding tradition in LEGO Star Wars’ history.

New rumoured information from itavixbrix (via brick_clicker) for this year’s May the 4th LEGO Star Wars selection has surfaced, including word of a new Battle Droid Carrier based on The Phantom Menace. It’s believed to include 262 pieces with between six and eight Battle Droid minifigures.

As a rumoured gift-with-purchase, it’s claimed to be available with qualifying purchases from May 1, 2024. That just so happens to be days away from the film’s 25th-anniversary re-release too. As exciting as this may sound, it’s worth taking the rumour with a pinch of salt and bearing in mind that it would break a 24-year-long LEGO Star Wars tradition.

Every time this vehicle has been recreated as a new LEGO Star Wars set, it has always followed a version of the MTT – whether they be a year or even four apart. Provided the rumours are accurate, 40686 Battle Droid Carrier will be changing that with no rumours of any new version of the MTT at the time of writing.

As a rumoured gift-with-purchase, it’s not quite the same as the three other Battle Droid Carrier sets but it will not be following an MTT model this time around unless the LEGO Group has a surprise in-store. Either way, it should provide some easy Battle Droids to grow your army, though it’s not ideal for army-building.

For now, we can only wait to see what the LEGO Group has planned for May the 4th in LEGO Star Wars 25th-anniversary year and there’s a fair amount of models reported to come this year, including a wave officially confirmed for March 1 specifically for the 25th anniversary.
