New character customiser trailer for LEGO DC Super-Villains

TT Games’ first brick-based title of 2018, LEGO The Incredibles, has been on shelves for almost a month now in the UK – double that across the pond – so chances are, you’re already looking ahead to the studio’s next game, LEGO DC Super-Villains. To whet your whistle just that little bit further, the LEGO Group has tweeted a tantalising tease of the character customiser, which is the game’s central hook.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 was the first game to go deep on the mechanics of character customisation, but DC Super-Villains is promising big things narratively speaking: you’ll play through the entire game as your own creation.

The new trailer shows off a few of the accessories you can equip your baddie with, including a Viking helmet (‘Charge into any situation head-first!’), Falcon wings (‘Take flight, swoop in and attack from the air’), chest armour (‘Barge, shoulder and butt your way past any adversary’) and a Jester’s hat (‘Cause a scene, lark about and create a distraction’).

Only the latter of those has any obvious connection to DC’s pantheon of characters as Harley Quinn’s headpiece, but this is LEGO we’re talking about – of course you can go crazy with your customisation. Whether these accessories really will have the specific abilities described is yet to be seen; while using wings to fly is pretty standard fare, causing distractions with a Jester’s hat seems like new territory for these games.

A previous character creator trailer was also unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con.

LEGO DC Super-Villains will be released on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 19, 2018.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
