New LEGO Store opens at London Luton Airport complete with AR experience
A new LEGO Store just opened its doors at London Luton Airport (LLA), becoming the fourth airport-based retail location in the UK.
Today marks the first day that a new LEGO Store in LLA welcomed customers through the doors, complete with all the usual features and attractions of a LEGO retail spot. As well as the standard Build-a-Minifigure wall and various themed builds (including a brick-built pilot), there’s also an augmented reality experience, where you can see what LEGO sets will look like by scanning the boxes.
Negotiations to open the LEGO store in LLA reportedly began last July after Lagardère Travel Retail, the management company behind LLA, submitted a proposal for a five-year, £8.8 million tender in April 2023 for two retail units, according to TR Business.
“We’re very proud,” Liam Grundy, Commercial & Business Development Director at Lagardère, told The Moodie Davitt Report. “It’s rare that open tenders which cater to both gifting and toys are announced in an airport like Luton, so we’re very glad we’ve been able to place Lego here.”
The LEGO Store reportedly stocks a number of airport-themed sets, such as 10318 Concorde.
