Scare up a new LEGO Ideas set with this giant Monsters, Inc. door

The latest LEGO Ideas project to scare up 10,000 supporters pays tribute to Monsters, Inc.’s Scare Floor, complete with brick-built Mike and Sully characters.

Pester78’s build recreates Boo’s door from the classic 2001 Pixar movie on a supersized scale, and boasts a working mechanism that holds the door in place and activates the scream canister. The designer bills it as a ‘mix of LEGO engineering and nostalgic Pixar charm’, and it’s clearly won over the Ideas crowd, given it’s taken just two months to reach the review stage.

Monsters, Inc. – Boo’s Door Scream Floor now progresses to the second 2025 review, the results of which we’ll likely learn early next year. That means if the LEGO Ideas review board does give this one the green light, we probably won’t see it on shelves until late 2026 or early 2027. It’s tough to say what its odds are right now – the LEGO Group has released plenty of Pixar sets before, both under and beyond the Ideas umbrella.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Monsters, Inc. is a shoo-in, though. The format may not be quite what the LEGO Ideas team is looking for, and the LEGO Group could easily have its own Monsters, Inc. set (or sets) on the cards for sometime within the next couple of years. We’ll have to wait for the results of the second 2025 review to find out for sure.

For now, check out all the projects in contention in this round below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
