Six LEGO Olympics sports you can relive in official sets

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics have begun and those not able to experience the games in person can relive the exciting sports through a variety of official sets big and small.

Even though the 2020 Olympics have started later than expected due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the world still has eyes on the athletes as they take to the stage once again to compete for pride, accomplishment and medals of gold, silver and bronze.

The LEGO Group are no stranger to the Olympics through a Collectible Minifigure Series and a partnership set, but more accessible models are just as good at helping to relive the events, including the newly-added sports.

6 – Surfing

The LEGO Creator 31118 Surfer Beach House provides everything a minifigure needs to ride the waves, from surfboards to comfortable lodgings to cool down after a day on the sea. It could even be rebuilt for minifigures to practice their swimming or diving ready for the LEGO Olympics.

5 – Hockey

As discussed in our review, LEGO Xtra 40375 Sports Accessories has everything a minifigure needs to get active, but several of the builds and pieces are dedicated to hockey. That makes it a great and cheap contender to quickly set up a match between teams, or plan strategies for your next game.

4 – Football

At the other end of the price scale and representing Football is LEGO Creator Expert 10272 Old Trafford – Manchester United. The LEGO Group’s most recent endeavour into brick-built stadiums is a huge model with details that fans of the sport or the team will enjoy, and the green pitch within is familiar to any player, no matter where you are from.

3 – Equestrian

The upcoming LEGO Disney 43195 Belle and Rapunzel’s Royal Stables is one of a few LEGO Equestrian models on the official online store. Compared to the others not only does it feature recognisable Disney Princesses, but it comes with everything needed to keep the horses healthy as well as enough equipment for younger builders to practise their horse-riding skills.

2 – Cycling BMX freestyle

Making its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Cycling BMX Freestyle is one of the newest sports under the iconic banner, and LEGO CITY 60290 Skate Park captures the exciting feeling the activity provides through some colourful and creative builds on one of the new modular road plates. One BMX rider is included in the set but plenty of other sports-going minifigures are on hand to support them as they show off their skills.

1 – Acrobatic gymnastics

LEGO Friends finishes the list with one of the newest models in the theme representing the Acrobats of the world. As one of the most functional builds on the list, 41686 Magical Acrobatics features two new mini-dolls to spin, swing and move, including similar gymnastic rings as are used in the actual Olympic Games.
