Star Wars: Ahsoka hints at new path for future of franchise
The first episodes of Ahsoka have a huge reveal that could have major ramifications for the upcoming Mandalorian crossover movie.
This article will discuss major spoilers from the first two episodes of Ahsoka, which are streaming now on Disney+. It seems that the Star Wars show will have more of an effect on the wider Mandoverse than previously expected, potentially revealing how the projects may separate themselves from the sequel trilogy.
The visuals in the credits sequence, as well as the content in the main episodes, confirm that Peridea – where Thrawn is located – is in an entirely different galaxy than what most of Star Wars has been taking place in so far.
The aim of Morgan Elsbeth is to travel to this planet and the new galaxy using the Eye of Sion, setting the stage for Ahsoka and Sabine to venture to an entirely different location as they pursue them. Whatever Thrawn has been up to since being banished could be a greater threat too, though it’s too early to guess exactly what threat he might be.
Give Din Djarin and Grogu a reason to head to the new galaxy and it could allow for more creative freedom without being tethered to setting up the return of Emperor Palpatine ahead of the upcoming film. It’s already been confirmed that the crossover movie will take place before The Force Awakens with another set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker featuring Rey.
This, theoretically, could be the start of a new era of Star Wars mostly unaffected by the rise of the First Order and episodes seven to nine with different threats. However, nothing has been officially confirmed and we’re only a fraction of the way through Ahsoka at the time of writing. For now, it’s setting up something unexpected for the franchise as we’re heading to another galaxy far, far away.
The three LEGO Star Wars: Ahsoka sets launch on September 1 with new episodes of the series dropping every Tuesday at 9pm ET.
