New 12-pack of LEGO Marvel Series 2 CMFs shows up in stores

A 12-pack of LEGO Collectible Minifigures 71039 Marvel Series 2 has debuted on store shelves, teasing the possibility of buying an entire set of blind-boxed characters in one go.

Regular cases of 71039 Marvel Series 2 include 36 individual boxed minifigures, or three complete sets of the 12 different characters. Select third-party retailers are subsequently selling the Disney+ minifigures by the caseload, which is great if you’re after three sets or have someone to split them with, but is prohibitively expensive if you just want one of each (and time-consuming if you need to sell the spares).

As a result, we’re seeing LEGO fans coming up with new and increasingly creative ways to get around the new cardboard packaging, which removes the ability to feel the contents (as per the previous foil bags). One redditor even claims to have spent three hours in a LEGO Store shining a torch light through boxes. But the LEGO Group may have had an ace up its sleeve all along: cases of 12 minifigures.

Twitter user guiPlayz has shared the first image of a unique, vertical 71039 Marvel Series 2 case, which basically looks like a giant Pez dispenser, and seemingly holds a dozen individual boxed minifigures. We could be on the brink of a game-changer here, but it essentially rests on the answer to the question: are all 12 of those boxes unique?

Short of someone picking up a fresh case and buying them all at once, it’s tricky to say (and it doesn’t seem like guiPlayz has done that). Your chances of finding one for yourself might be slim for the time being, too, as this case was reportedly photographed in Denmark. To date, we’ve only seen the classic 36-box cases in LEGO Stores, supermarkets and other third-party retailers in the UK and US.

What this does represent, though, is the LEGO Group being prepared to think outside the box (sorry not sorry) for its Collectible Minifigures packaging. You can already buy individual minifigures, packs of six boxes, a case of 36 boxes, and now a dozen minifigures at a time. And given the six-packs reportedly include unique characters – at least one redditor bought two and got the full set – here’s hoping that 12-pack also contains a complete series, and eventually makes its way to other countries.

If nothing else, being able to buy a complete set in one go may discourage the kind of behaviour we’ve seen around 71039 Marvel Series 2’s new packaging in the days since the series launched. If you’re happy buying them truly blind, you can order the new Collectible Minifigures from LEGO.com now.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
