LEGO is giving away a free Lord of the Rings set for VIPs buying Rivendell

The LEGO Group is giving away free copies of a second The Lord of the Rings set during the VIP early access period for its 6,000-piece Rivendell model.

10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell launches on March 5 for VIP members, before going on wider sale to everyone at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores on March 8. If you’re signed up to the VIP program (which is free to join) and buy the 6,167-piece set between March 5 and 7, you’ll also receive a free copy of 40630 Frodo & Gollum.

The BrickHeadz set is one of three double-packs that launched on January 1, alongside 40631 Gandalf the Grey & Balrog and 40632 Aragorn & Arwen. With 184 pieces in the box and a retail price of £13.49 / $14.99 / €14.99, 40630 Frodo & Gollum is also the cheapest of them all – but it will cost you nothing when buying 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell.

As an incentive to purchase the latest (and biggest) LEGO The Lord of the Rings set on day one, it’s likely to divide opinion: early adopters may want something more exclusive to reward them for paying full price straight away, but those without the means to buy on day one (or two, or three) will be happy to not miss out on a limited gift-with-purchase.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
