PSA: Don’t apply all your LEGO Orient Express stickers straight away

The initial production run of LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train includes an incorrect sticker sheet, but the LEGO Group has promised to provide replacements upon request.

If you’re planning to pick up the latest LEGO Ideas set on day one, you’re probably champing at the bit to bust open the box and start assembling the LEGO Group’s latest train designed for adults. But before you do, it’s worth taking stock of everything inside – including the sticker sheet, which in early copies of 21344 The Orient Express Train will actually be incorrect.

On one of two sticker sheets bundled with the 2,540-piece set, a handful of the graphics are printed with the wrong background colour. Stickers numbered nine, 10 and 14 should all have a reflective gold backing, but instead are printed on a flame yellowish orange colour. Out of the box, those don’t really give the luxury impression you’d expect from the Orient Express.

The good news is that the LEGO Group has already clocked the error and lined up replacement sticker sheets, which we’ve had chance to receive and apply for our review copy of 21344 The Orient Express Train. If you’re reading this six or 12 months from now, you may have avoided this issue altogether, as the LEGO Group says future production runs will include the corrected sticker sheet.

But if you have found yourself clutching stickers that look suspiciously dull compared to the rest of the sheet, which otherwise contains the various mirror stickers applied inside the train’s carriages, you’ll need to get in touch with the LEGO Group’s customer service department at LEGO.com to request replacements. You’ll still be able to build the rest of the set in the meantime and come back to apply the stickers later, too, as none of them are on hard-to-reach places once the model is assembled.

21344 The Orient Express Train launches December 1, 2023 for £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99. While you wait for it to arrive, check out our review of the 52nd LEGO Ideas set.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.

I am making room for this one (perhaps next to the Hogwarts express)? I am clearly going to need a bigger house.
