Every LEGO set retiring in 2022 – January update

We’re kicking off 2022 with a complete rundown of every single

set due to retire this year, giving you the best idea of what to prioritise over the next 12 months.

Dozens of

products from across the entire portfolio will leave shelves in 2022, including heavy hitters from Star Wars, Ideas, Marvel and so on. That includes a surprising number of sets that have only just launched, such as , and .

At this stage, it’s really too early to say that all of these sets will definitively retire by the end of the year – these dates aren’t set in stone, and the LEGO Group could easily amend them at any point over the next 12 months – but for now, this list will hopefully at least give you some indication of what should be topping your list before it retires for good.

LEGO Star Wars

The vast majority of 2021 LEGO Star Wars sets are due to retire in 2022, including most of the brilliant Mandalorian-themed models that arrived last August. That includes

, which is currently the only way to get your hands on Moff Gideon, and the mighty .

LEGO Ideas

Ideas is due to lose some of its biggest and best sets by the end of 2022, including

and the re-released . has also been brought forward from its original 2023 retirement date, coinciding with its recent discount at .

LEGO Marvel

We’re waving goodbye to no fewer than 28 different LEGO Marvel sets in 2022, although three of them have yet to hit shelves. If the planned (but postponed) mechs do ever launch, it’ll be interesting to see if their retirement is delayed in kind.

LEGO Harry Potter

It’s been a consistent presence in the LEGO Harry Potter line-up since the theme returned in 2018, but

is finally due to depart shelves for good in 2022. Plenty of smaller sets will disappear alongside it, including – another veteran of the Wizarding World theme – and both of this year’s new Hogwarts Moments sets, which don’t actually arrive until March.

LEGO Technic

A last-minute postponement of its planned retirement in 2021 has seen

survive for another year on shelves, but time will tell whether it gets a third chance in 2023. For now, it’s scheduled to race off into the sunset by the end of this year.

LEGO for Adults / Creator Expert

A handful of LEGO Creator Expert /

are due to leave shelves this year, with both football stadiums among them. That’s pretty surprising given only launched in September 2021.

LEGO Architecture

It’s a one in, one out policy for LEGO

in 2022: has just landed on shelves as the first skyline in two years, while will be gone by the end of December.

LEGO NINJAGO

If you haven’t picked up 71741

City yet, you’ve only got until the end of the year to save up the cash for our favourite set of 2021. Thankfully, the LEGO Group has made that task a little easier in the UK by knocking its price down by £10.

– which only launched a few days ago in most markets – will apparently be gone by the end of the year.

Luigi’s Mansion sets are due to be frightened away from production by the end of the year, but before then, you’ll need to prioritise last summer’s expansion sets: several of them, including 71391 Bowser’s Airship, are due to retire before July 31.

LEGO Creator

Some of Creator 3-in-1’s very best sets are among the list of those due to retire this year, including

, and – finally – , which has been on shelves since 2017.

LEGO Speed Champions

Speed Champions sets have a very predictable life cycle: they’ll arrive in March (or June), and hang around until the end of the following year. So it is with last year’s batch of eight-stud-wide cars, which will presumably be joined later this year by six more sets. Predictable.

LEGO Disney

Among the longlist of LEGO Disney sets departing in 2022, the main one to keep an eye on is

. It’s been around far longer than most of its contemporaries given it launched in 2016, but that extended lifespan means it could also easily survive into 2023. We’ll keep you posted.

LEGO Jurassic World

The latest batch of Jurassic World sets will only get a year or so in the spotlight, with all five currently scheduled to retire by the end of 2022. They only launched in September 2021, so it’s a pretty narrow window to get your dino fix, but don’t worry: more sets will be coming later this year.

LEGO Monkie Kid

If there’s one

set every discerning LEGO fan should own, it’s . The good news is that it’s still on shelves, even while most of the other first-wave sets have retired. The better news is that it’s recently received a permanent £15 discount in the UK. The bad news is that it’s going to retire by the end of 2022…

LEGO Stranger Things

Who knew Stranger Things would still be part of this list in 2022, given

retired as anticipated at the end of 2021? The LEGO Group, that’s who. 40549 Demogorgon & Eleven is a surprise release for 2022 (although it was rumoured at the tail end of last year), and keeps the Stranger Things flame alight ahead of the show’s fourth season. It’ll only last the year, though.

LEGO CITY

Deep breath: dozens of LEGO

sets are on the way out this year, the majority at the tail end of 2022. Both of the current trains will be gone by the summer, though – hopefully to be replaced by better versions in late 2022 or early 2023, but best grab these while you can just in case.

LEGO VIDIYO

It may not have performed as the LEGO Group (or anyone else) hoped, but

is still hanging on in 2022. Pretty much all of its sets will be gone by the end of the year, though – and presumably forgotten pretty quickly.

LEGO Art

LEGO Art had a relatively quiet year in 2021 following a bombastic launch in August 2020, and three of its four most recent mosaics are due to retire in 2022. Only

– the largest LEGO set of all time by piece count – will survive into 2023.

LEGO Friends

LEGO Friends has one of the most sprawling portfolios of any LEGO theme, so it’s no surprise that so many of its products will retire in 2022. More shocking is that a couple of its cooler 2022 sets – including

and – won’t make it to 2023, at least as things stand at the moment.

LEGO BrickHeadz

Plenty of LEGO

sets will both arrive and depart shelves in 2022, including the newly-revealed and , and the newly-released .

LEGO DOTS

Look at that cute banana pen holder. Now imagine not being able to get your hands on it whenever you want. Congratulations, you have just mentally transported yourself to 2023.

LEGO Minecraft

Twelve LEGO Minecraft sets are making a very blocky departure in 2022. (Can you make a blocky departure? Who knows. They’re blocky, they’re departing. Run with it.)

LEGO Minions

Will the long-delayed

: The Rise of Gru arrive in cinemas before the rest of its tie-in LEGO sets leave shelves? At the moment: yes. But really, who knows.

LEGO Seasonal

Both of this year’s LEGO Chinese New Year sets will be gone by the end of the year, so make sure to grab the sublime
