Every LEGO set retiring in 2022 – January update

We’re kicking off 2022 with a complete rundown of every single LEGO set due to retire this year, giving you the best idea of what to prioritise over the next 12 months.

Dozens of LEGO products from across the entire portfolio will leave shelves in 2022, including heavy hitters from Star Wars, Ideas, Marvel and so on. That includes a surprising number of sets that have only just launched, such as 76205 Gargantos Showdown, 76396 Hogwarts Moment: Divination Class and 76183 Batcave: The Riddler Face-off.

At this stage, it’s really too early to say that all of these sets will definitively retire by the end of the year – these dates aren’t set in stone, and the LEGO Group could easily amend them at any point over the next 12 months – but for now, this list will hopefully at least give you some indication of what should be topping your list before it retires for good.

LEGO Star Wars

The vast majority of 2021 LEGO Star Wars sets are due to retire in 2022, including most of the brilliant Mandalorian-themed models that arrived last August. That includes 75315 Imperial Light Cruiser, which is currently the only way to get your hands on Moff Gideon, and the mighty 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer.

LEGO Ideas

Ideas is due to lose some of its biggest and best sets by the end of 2022, including 21318 Tree House and the re-released 92176 NASA Apollo Saturn V. 21328 Seinfeld has also been brought forward from its original 2023 retirement date, coinciding with its recent discount at LEGO.com.

LEGO Marvel

We’re waving goodbye to no fewer than 28 different LEGO Marvel sets in 2022, although three of them have yet to hit shelves. If the planned (but postponed) mechs do ever launch, it’ll be interesting to see if their retirement is delayed in kind.

LEGO Harry Potter

It’s been a consistent presence in the LEGO Harry Potter line-up since the theme returned in 2018, but 71043 Hogwarts Castle is finally due to depart shelves for good in 2022. Plenty of smaller sets will disappear alongside it, including 75955 Hogwarts Express – another veteran of the Wizarding World theme – and both of this year’s new Hogwarts Moments sets, which don’t actually arrive until March.

LEGO Technic

A last-minute postponement of its planned retirement in 2021 has seen 42083 Bugatti Chiron survive for another year on shelves, but time will tell whether it gets a third chance in 2023. For now, it’s scheduled to race off into the sunset by the end of this year.

88013 Large Motor
88014 XL Motor

LEGO for Adults / Creator Expert

A handful of LEGO Creator Expert / LEGO for Adults are due to leave shelves this year, with both football stadiums among them. That’s pretty surprising given 10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona only launched in September 2021.

10266 NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander
10270 Bookshop
10271 Fiat 500

10284 Camp Nou – FC Barcelona
10291 Queer Eye – The Fab 5 Loft

LEGO Architecture

It’s a one in, one out policy for LEGO Architecture in 2022: 21057 Singapore has just landed on shelves as the first skyline in two years, while 21051 Tokyo will be gone by the end of December.

21051 Tokyo

LEGO NINJAGO

If you haven’t picked up 71741 NINJAGO City yet, you’ve only got until the end of the year to save up the cash for our favourite set of 2021. Thankfully, the LEGO Group has made that task a little easier in the UK by knocking its price down by £10.

LEGO Batman/DC Super Heroes

You don’t have long to pick up the latest interpretation of the Caped Crusader’s hide-out, as 76183 Batcave: The Riddler Face-off – which only launched a few days ago in most markets – will apparently be gone by the end of the year.

LEGO Super Mario

Both new LEGO Super Mario Luigi’s Mansion sets are due to be frightened away from production by the end of the year, but before then, you’ll need to prioritise last summer’s expansion sets: several of them, including 71391 Bowser’s Airship, are due to retire before July 31.

LEGO Creator

Some of Creator 3-in-1’s very best sets are among the list of those due to retire this year, including 31112 Wild Lion, 31117 Space Shuttle Adventure and – finally – 31058 Mighty Dinosaurs, which has been on shelves since 2017.

31058 Mighty Dinosaurs

31116 Safari Wildlife Tree House
31117 Space Shuttle Adventure
31119 Ferris Wheel
31121 Crocodile
40461 Tulips

LEGO Speed Champions

Speed Champions sets have a very predictable life cycle: they’ll arrive in March (or June), and hang around until the end of the following year. So it is with last year’s batch of eight-stud-wide cars, which will presumably be joined later this year by six more sets. Predictable.

76900 Koenigsegg Jesko
76901 Toyota GR Supra
76902 McLaren Elva
76903 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R Race Car and 1968 Chevrolet Corvette
76904 Mopar Dodge//SRT Top Fuel Dragster and 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A
76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition and Bronco R

LEGO Disney

Among the longlist of LEGO Disney sets departing in 2022, the main one to keep an eye on is 71040 The Disney Castle. It’s been around far longer than most of its contemporaries given it launched in 2016, but that extended lifespan means it could also easily survive into 2023. We’ll keep you posted.

10772 Mickey Mouse’s Propeller Plane
10773 Minnie Mouse’s Ice Cream Shop
10774 Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse’s Space Rocket

43202 The Madrigal House
71040 The Disney Castle

LEGO Jurassic World

The latest batch of Jurassic World sets will only get a year or so in the spotlight, with all five currently scheduled to retire by the end of 2022. They only launched in September 2021, so it’s a pretty narrow window to get your dino fix, but don’t worry: more sets will be coming later this year.

10939 T. Rex and Triceratops Dinosaur Breakout
76939 Stygimoloch Dinosaur Escape
76940 T. rex Dinosaur Fossil Exhibition
76941 Carnotaurus Dinosaur Chase
76942 Baryonyx Dinosaur Boat Escape

LEGO Monkie Kid

If there’s one Monkie Kid set every discerning LEGO fan should own, it’s 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech. The good news is that it’s still on shelves, even while most of the other first-wave sets have retired. The better news is that it’s recently received a permanent £15 discount in the UK. The bad news is that it’s going to retire by the end of 2022…

80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech
80013 Monkie Kid’s Team Secret HQ
80019 Red Son’s Inferno Jet
80020 White Dragon Horse Jet

80024 The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain
80025 Sandy’s Power Loader Mech
80026 Pigsy’s Noodle Tank
80028 The Bone Demon

LEGO Stranger Things

Who knew Stranger Things would still be part of this list in 2022, given 75810 The Upside Down retired as anticipated at the end of 2021? The LEGO Group, that’s who. 40549 Demogorgon & Eleven is a surprise release for 2022 (although it was rumoured at the tail end of last year), and keeps the Stranger Things flame alight ahead of the show’s fourth season. It’ll only last the year, though.

40549 Demogorgon & Eleven

LEGO CITY

Deep breath: dozens of LEGO CITY sets are on the way out this year, the majority at the tail end of 2022. Both of the current trains will be gone by the summer, though – hopefully to be replaced by better versions in late 2022 or early 2023, but best grab these while you can just in case.

LEGO VIDIYO

It may not have performed as the LEGO Group (or anyone else) hoped, but LEGO VIDIYO is still hanging on in 2022. Pretty much all of its sets will be gone by the end of the year, though – and presumably forgotten pretty quickly.

LEGO Art

LEGO Art had a relatively quiet year in 2021 following a bombastic launch in August 2020, and three of its four most recent mosaics are due to retire in 2022. Only 31203 World Map – the largest LEGO set of all time by piece count – will survive into 2023.

21226 Art Project – Create Together
31201 Harry Potter Hogwarts Crests
31202 Disney’s Mickey Mouse

LEGO Friends

LEGO Friends has one of the most sprawling portfolios of any LEGO theme, so it’s no surprise that so many of its products will retire in 2022. More shocking is that a couple of its cooler 2022 sets – including 41701 Street Food Market and 41702 Canal Houseboat – won’t make it to 2023, at least as things stand at the moment.

41390 Andrea’s Car & Stage

LEGO Minions

Will the long-delayed Minions: The Rise of Gru arrive in cinemas before the rest of its tie-in LEGO sets leave shelves? At the moment: yes. But really, who knows.

40511 Minions Kung Fu Training
75546 Minions in Gru’s Lab
75547 Minion Pilot in Training
75550 Minions Kung Fu Battle
75551 Brick-built Minions and their Lair

Hey thanks so much for your information. Do you get your lists from LEGO? I’m just so shocked at some of the sets.

surely 10279 is not retiring this year seeing as it just launched and is replacing the longest lasting set in history. Also agree that Powered Up Hub and Motors would not be retiring either.

Does this list come directly from Lego? Or is it educated guess on your part?

This seems like a massive list of retirements. Any insight into whether this is a typical amount? Are lego reducing their output or merely making room for an amazing release of new sets?

Does not seem unusual to me. They put out a ton of new sets every year. There were over 100 new sets out on Jan 1st with many many more coming yet this year.
