One of the first LEGO Marvel sets is getting a major upgrade in 2023

Based on the original Avengers movie, one of the first LEGO Marvel sets is getting a huge upgrade in 2023 with updated minifigures too. 

LEGO Marvel as we know it today started on May 1, 2012, with a variety of sets inspired by characters, movies and comics. This initial wave featured 6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle as the biggest of the builds. 

Almost 11 years later and that model is getting a makeover with the launch of 76248 The Avengers Quinjet. Comparing the two creations reveals a lot of similarities between them but with a different minifigure selection and updates all around.

Starting with the minifigures, 6869 Quinjet Aerial Battle included a Chitauri soldier, Loki, Black Widow, Iron Man and Thor. In 76248 The Avengers Quinjet, almost the entire selection is back with various updates. 

However, the Chitauri has been swapped for Captain America in the 2023 set, updating the minifigure design first seen in 6865 Captain America’s Avenging Cycle. Just looking at these two minifigures over a decade apart and more than a few differences can be found including the addition of a dedicated helmet piece and a wholly different expression.

The other minifigures are more similar between the two LEGO Marvel sets but Loki has a notable upgrade with the addition of the muzzle seen at the end of the film as an alternate face print. 

In terms of the brick-built inclusions, the Chitauri vehicle is missing in 76248 The Avengers Quinjet and instead, a display stand to hold the aircraft is featured similar to that of 76193 The Guardians’ Ship.

The Quinjet itself has a few changes too, with an all-grey appearance in the 2023 model and one connected interior, but without the ability to angle the cockpit. Add to that the folding landing gear as well as turning rotors and it’s safe to say that there are a lot of upgrades in 76248 The Avengers Quinjet. 

76248 The Avengers Quinjet will be available starting January 1, 2023, for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. 6869 Quinjet Aerial has long since retired.
