Four LEGO mysteries we need answers to in 2024

We’re patiently waiting for answers, details and official reveals regarding four LEGO mysteries that are currently bugging us in 2024.

When it comes to set reveals and product announcements, the LEGO Group tends to keep its secrets well-and-truly under wraps. Despite rumours and hints of potential releases, there are still plenty of mysteries surrounding what the company has planned for the rest of 2024.

While a fresh batch of models will be arriving as soon as April 1, beyond that the rest of the year is currently looking a little hazy. We may have a vague idea of what’s around the corner, but there are already four LEGO enigmas we need answers to over the next 12 months.

4 – What are the LEGO Group’s three unannounced themes?

According to a former LEGO designer, TLG has yet to reveal at least three new themes for 2024, but at this stage we have no idea what they might be. James May recently confirmed that a trio of ‘yet to be announced’ themes are in the pipeline, all of which he worked on in 2023 before his departure.

It’s possible that sets based around LEGO Wicked, LEGO Fortnite and LEGO Despicable Me 4 might be on that list or they could be completely unrelated products altogether. Note that there’s been no official confirmation regarding any of those themes to date, so do treat such information with a pinch of salt for now.

3 – What is codename ‘Buffalo’?

Speaking of mystery themes, one such upcoming addition to the LEGO Group’s portfolio for 2024 might be codenamed ‘Buffalo.’ Initial listings for potential sets first appeared on a retailer’s website and are said to be launching later this year.

There are reported to be two models in the theme so far, with 76780 and 76781 featuring 702 and 750 pieces respectively. The listings also included ‘ip’, potentially suggesting the theme might be based around a licensed movie or TV series, but at this stage that’s all the information we have to go on.

2 – What new LEGO title is TT Games working on?

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was released back in 2022, but since then the developer has been very quiet. Apart from a few DLC releases to support the title, there’s currently no word on what TT Games might be cooking up next.

What we do know is that the company is actively recruiting and working on a big LEGO project based on a major IP, but beyond that we’re in the dark. In the meantime, other developers have been working on their own official LEGO titles, with LEGO 2K Drive being the most recent such release.

1 – Who are the remaining LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures?

This year is the 25th anniversary of both The Phantom Menace and the LEGO Star Wars theme and TLG has already started ramping up for its annual May the Fourth celebrations. The release of both 75387 Boarding the Tantive IV and 75379 R2-D2 included exclusive LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary minifigures in the shape of ARC Trooper Fives and Darth Malak, and TLG has confirmed there will be six such characters released in 2024.

A landing page on LEGO.com includes silhouettes of three more mysterious minifigures that have yet to be revealed, but no hints as to who they may be. Rumours suggest we may get to see the likes of Young Leia, Cal Kestis and even Saw Gerrara being included with more as yet to be revealed LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary sets, but those characters remain pure speculation for now.

We’re hoping we’ll get answers to all of the above LEGO mysteries before the end of this year and we’ll keep you posted on any such enigmas being solved as more details begin to emerge.
