How to scan your LEGO sets for 20 LEGO Insiders points

LEGO Insiders is here and so is a brand-new way to earn LEGO Insiders points – by scanning instructions for bonus points per set.

You can earn extra points on every LEGO set you own from over the past few years with a brand new feature debuting with LEGO Insiders – the new service that has replaced LEGO VIP. Simply scan the QR code on the instructions and you’ll see 20 points added to your account, but it’s not quite that simple the first time round.

The process of scanning instructions isn’t too complicated once you know what you’re doing but finding the feature can be a bit tricky. We’ve got a step-by-step guide on exactly what you need to do to earn those bonus points.

1 – Find a scannable LEGO set

First, find a LEGO set with a QR code on the front page of the instructions manual, such as 31125 Fantasy Forest Creatures and make sure that it has a QR code. Not every model from the past few years has one, such as 40657 Dream Village. Those without one cannot be registered for points. Some of the oldest LEGO sets will not have this QR code on the front either, as it started appearing around five years ago.

2 – Open the LEGO Builder app

Open up the LEGO Builder app on your phone or smart device and click the QR code icon next to the search bar to begin the process. You should ensure that you’re logged into the app by navigating to the tab with a minifigure on the right, as seen at the bottom of the above image.

Alternatively, scanning the QR code with your device’s camera will open a webpage (skipping you to step five) or the LEGO Builder app if it’s installed.

3 – Scan the instructions

Make your way past the tutorial screen and simply scan the QR code on the instructions by lining it up within the green brackets on the screen. The set number will be displayed below it.

4 – Prove that you’re a grown-up and LEGO Insider

At this point, you should be greeted with a math problem to prove that you are old enough to use the app. After scanning multiple models, we weren’t greeted by this page every time but the equations should be easy enough to complete in any case.

5 – Register your set

Your internet browser will then be opened, possibly with a prompt to log in to your LEGO Insiders account, which is just your old LEGO VIP account. Click the big blue button to register the set after ensuring that you are logged in correctly.

6 – Enjoy your 20 points

A burst of confetti will confirm that the set has been registered and add 20 points to your LEGO Insiders account. This is a flat rate for every LEGO model with a code no matter its size. The process is complete.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

Yes, I believe the QR codes are unique to each copy of a set so that you scan multiple of them, like if you had a lot of Star Wars battle packs.

Bjr, je n’ai pas l’étape 4 qui s’affiche, uniquement si je veux construire en PDF ou 3D, est ce trop tôt pour commencer ?

    Merci

Do you happen to know what happens if you have more than one of a set?

I expect that duplicate sets will not register, as the QR code would be the same.
