LEGO Harry Potter 40598 Gringotts Vault isn’t the only odd LEGO coin bank

LEGO Harry Potter 40598 Gringotts Vault has a secondary feature as a detailed brick-built coin bank, but it’s not the only strange LEGO bank.

Aside from its connection to 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition, 40598 Gringotts Vault can store any loose change you have, much like a real vault. It’s not going to be nearly as secure as Gringotts, but it will keep your coins in one place.

This feature is one that has made its way into many LEGO sets over the years and some coin banks have been more ornate than others. 40251 Mini Piggy Bank from 2017 may appear to be a standard piggy bank, but additional pieces allow it to be rebuilt into a panda or polar bear bank.

LEGO City’s

LEGO City’s 40110 LEGO City Coin Bank from 2014 is more similar to 40598 Gringotts Vault in design as a compact safe with a locking mechanism. This idea returned in the fan-designed 910016 Sheriff’s Safe in 2021 as part of the BrickLink Designer program with more detail than the official model too.

LEGO coin banks haven’t always been entirely brick-built though as a range of builds from 2008 to 2011 mixed System and Technic elements with other materials, themed to Castle, Pharoah’s Quest and Pirates.

Pirates is a good pick for a coin bank thanks to their storied connection with treasure and has received two coin banks. 852748 Pirates Coin Bank features far fewer bricks – none seemingly.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.

How could you leave out 40155? Couldn’t be a more classic piggy bank than that one (unless it was pink instead of red).
