The LEGO Group aims to tackle online safety with its Play Smart initiative

Play Smart is a new initiative launched by the LEGO Group that aims to tackle online safety for children with handy tips and advice.

To coincide with the recent Safer Internet Day event, the LEGO Group has launched Play Smart, a resource intended to empower families and help children stay safe when online. The initiative consists of a simple four-step guide, with a series of videos starring Australian gaming influencer, LoserFruit (aka Kathleen Belsten).

The handy tips and advice offer guidance on everything from online bullying, how to manage screen time and staying safe when in a digital space. The new resource is accompanied by the brand-new browser-based Smart Dash mini-skills game, which can be experienced online right here. Essentially an endless runner, the one-to-two player game features a set of minifigures that have to solve challenges, collect positive emojis and give good advice when asked.

The videos from LoserFruit are all available to view on the Kids section of LEGO.com and focus on guides to gaming, how the influencer built her online community, why she loves losing and when to take a break from digital activities.

“The digital world can be a brilliant place to play and learn,” said Diana Ringe Krogh, Vice President, Social Responsibility & Engagement, at the LEGO Group, especially for children, but many parents and caregivers struggle to talk with their children about their online life. We want to make it easier for adults to have the right conversations with their children when it comes to playing smart and staying safe online.”

“The tools we’ve launched today are all part of our mission to inspire the builders of tomorrow and help children learn skills to stay safe, healthy and happy online,” Ringe Krogh continues. “Children are at the centre of everything we do, which is why we’re dedicated to delivering creative, nurturing and safe play experiences to help them reach their full potential and enhance their well-being, both online and offline.”
