First look at all four LEGO Harry Potter 2024 Hogwarts sets combined

Early reviews of the LEGO Harry Potter summer 2024 sets have just dropped online, including a first look at all four new Hogwarts sets combined.

LEGO Harry Potter has kicked off a brand new modular system of Hogwarts sets in 2024, leaving behind the sand green roofs and boxy approach of the 2021 to 2023 sets for something much bigger and more detailed. That’s epitomised nowhere better than in 76435 Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall, which retails for a whopping £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 for 1,732 pieces.

It’s the biggest single slice of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since the LEGO Harry Potter theme returned in 2018 (the more complete microscale renditions of the school notwithstanding), and acts as the anchor point for the other three sets released or revealed so far: 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse, 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery and 76431 Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class.

So far, the LEGO Group has only released the Boathouse and Owlery – the Great Hall and Potions Class will follow on June 1 – which together do not make for what you’d call a cohesive display. But the addition of the other two sets in June starts to fill out a more complete picture of Hogwarts, as YouTuber SwiftBricks has shown off in a new video.

As expected, 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse clips directly to the bottom of the staircase that leads down and away from the Great Hall, recreating this section of the school in a way that none of the previous modular systems have managed. It’s a satisfying bit of magical synergy for two early entries in this new wave, and ensures that while you’ll probably be waiting a few years to complete this Hogwarts, it looks pretty good already.

The Potions Class, meanwhile, is a rare Hogwarts set that doesn’t really have any tan pieces to build up its walls – and with good reason. This set is intended to slot into the dungeons that sit beneath the Great Hall, mimicking the underground position of Professor Snape’s quarters in the movies and books. But it comes at a cost at the moment, and paying the price is either the Hufflepuff Common Room or the bathroom. There just isn’t space for all three at once.

You’ll need to fully close up the Potions Class, which sits on hinges, to fit into the space underneath the Great Hall (making sure to orient the side with the Technic holes towards the far side of the space, from where Technic axles are protruding to hold the classroom in place). There’s still enough room for one of those hinges to swing open for interior access to the classroom, but having the option to have it entirely enclosed is pretty novel for a minifigure-scale Hogwarts.

Finally, 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery actually sits completely separate from the other sections of the school, with no clips along the bottom to connect it to the other sets. That’s accurate to the movie, though, so points to the LEGO Harry Potter team. It just feels like a slightly unusual one to start with – for now, you’re going to have to place it somewhere adjacent to the rest of your display once the new sets arrive on shelves.

76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse and 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery are available now, while 76431 Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class and 76435 Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall will debut at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores on June 1, 2024 and are available to pre-order now.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
