LEGO Ideas 21349 Tuxedo Cat officially revealed

The LEGO Group has officially revealed the next LEGO Ideas set, 21349 Tuxedo Cat, based on a successful 10K submission by Damian Andres.

While Damian originally pitched a Siamese-Birman cross, he later added a black-and-white version of his buildable cat to the project page – and it’s that revision from which 21349 Tuxedo Cat draws its inspiration, offering a build that will likely have broader appeal to pet owners around the world than the more specific breed of Damian’s feline friend.

The final model comes in at 1,710 pieces, among which are two separate sets of tiles for its eyes, so you can swap between blue and yellow. The moggy also boasts several points of articulation, including at its neck, tail, mouth, ears and front paws, so you can make minute adjustments to its pose. It doesn’t look like you’ll be able to drastically alter it from its standard sitting configuration, though.

Damian’s original model – simply titled ‘Cat’ – was initially submitted in December 2020, and reached the 10,000-supporter milestone in just under two years. It was then given the green light in the third 2022 review. 21349 Tuxedo Cat’s release therefore marks the next chapter in what’s already quite a lengthy journey for this build.

21349 Tuxedo Cat will launch at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores on June 1, 2024, and will apparently be available to pre-order from today. It will retail for £89.99 in the UK, $99.99 in the US and from €99.99 in Europe.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
