LEGO Ideas Galileo fan designer pitches Avatar set

Avatar: The Last Airbender is once again being pitched for a LEGO Ideas set, but this time with the backing of a familiar fan designer.

Firecracker_ has finally joined the 10K club thanks to their Avatar: The Last Airbender project, though they’re an official fan designer already after winning the challenge that brought us 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei.

Their experience with working on an official LEGO Ideas set may be especially helpful should the LEGO Ideas team finally approve a model inspired by the element-centric animated series.

The franchise has recently had a resurgence thanks in no small part to the Netflix series and there are plenty of Avatar: The Last Airbender projects on the way that a set could tie in to, including multiple animated movies, a series and more seasons of the Netflix show.

Firecracker_’s project proposes a buildable Appa – a Sky Bison – for a team of four minifigures to ride around the four kingdoms. Those minifigures are all based on the first season of the original series and include Aang, Katara, Zuko and Sokka.

The LEGO Group is no stranger to Avatar: The Last Airbender and released a duo of sets back in 2006 as well as some digital LEGO Styles for Fortnite outfits more recently. There has been no sign of a return to this franchise in physical form though at the time of writing.

For now, the LEGO Group’s focus is on the other popular Avatar franchise with a full theme of sets available now, but retiring soon. Whether there’s room for two Avatar franchises in the LEGO portfolio has yet to be seen. With any luck, Firecracker_ will be able to impress the judges in the second 2024 LEGO Ideas review

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
