LEGO The Lord of the Rings designers considered another set instead of Rivendell

LEGO The Lord of the Rings designers told Brick Fanatics that another location was considered instead of Rivendell at first in an exclusive interview.

For a franchise known for its breathtaking locations and fantastical settings, there are a lot of options when it comes to designing a LEGO set focusing on the world of The Lord of the Rings. While Rivendell is a solid choice, the LEGO designers told us in an exclusive interview that it wasn’t a straightforward decision to make.

“We were also heavily considering going back to Bag End,” explained LEGO designer Mike Psiaki. “But when we were looking at the original sets, we just felt like the Bag End set that was released in conjunction with the Hobbit movies is a really great model.”

“Of course, we can do something bigger, more in-depth, more advanced, more crafted – but is it really necessary?” the designer added. “Will that really provide much more [to fans]? With Rivendell, we felt like we can definitely take this one up to 11, no problem.”

Rivendell as a location has a lot to offer, as well as offering a springboard to bring together minifigures from almost every race in the Middle-earth through the Council of Elrond. At the end of the day, it seems like the smart route to take (although we wouldn’t say no to a similar model of Bag End in the future…)
