To complement the LEGO Super Mario sets, fans can collect extra villains to populate their layouts. 71361 Character Pack provides 10 enemies for Mario, each one packed in a blind bag like the Collectible Minifigures. The enemies that come blind bagged are Paragoomba, Fuzzy, Spiny, Buzzy Beetle, Bullet Bill, Bob-omb, Eep Cheep, Blooper, Urchin or Peepa.

LEGO Super Mario products only work with 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course – although these bad guys can be collected separately, the reactive Mario figure will respond when bounced on their scannable codes.

This review copy contained Fuzzy, the hopping villain type that is ready to steal Mario’s points. This LEGO recreation uses a SNOT technique and printed 2×2 piece to capture the spiky shape. It works and, as with rest of the characters in the theme, the printed piece is excellent.

A platform and tiny scene is included, which can be attached to 71360 Adventures with Mario Starter Course and Expansion Sets to expand the layout. To defeat Fuzzy, Mario must jump on his back.

Those who are collecting LEGO Super Mario may as well dive into 71361 Character Packs, as they offer better value for money than the actual sets. Containing a well-designed character and extra pieces, they add something to the game for a low price.
