Piece by Piece could be the first Universal Pictures LEGO Movie

The upcoming Piece by Piece Pharrell Williams biopic may be the first LEGO movie in the five-year partnership with Universal Pictures.

Being made in conjunction with Focus Features, Piece by Piece appears to be the first LEGO movie in a five-year partnership with Universal Pictures. Focus Features is a film and distribution company owned by Comcast as a division of Universal Pictures, possibly making the biopic the first movie in the deal.

The deal was announced in April 2020 and Piece by Piece’s release on October 11, 2024, puts its debut nearly four and a half years after the deal was signed. It may not be the most obvious concept for a LEGO movie, but it could manage to sneak in just before the deadline in 2025.

The announcement of Piece by Piece follows a reported change in directors for a ‘hybrid’ live-action and animation LEGO film that is said to be in the works too. We’ll have to see whether or not more movies will come from the Universal Pictures deal before the deadline in 2025 unless it has been extended behind the scenes.

For now, you can look forward to the release of Piece by Piece on October 11, 2024, with global release dates being announced soon. Keep in mind that this may not be the first movie specifically part of the five-year deal. Given that it’s being handled by a specific division of Universal Pictures, it may not interfere with any other existing film plans as well.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
