Is a shiny metallic LEGO C-3PO minifigure on the way?

A shiny metallic C-3PO LEGO minifigure could be included in the the rumoured 75341 UCS Luke’s Landspeeder, if the latest rumour is to be believed.

Instagram user legohio has claimed that the Ultimate Collector Series set reportedly releasing later this year – 75341 Luke’s Landspeeder – will feature a C-3PO made using drum-lacquered gold elements. This is the same effect used on the shiny pieces included in recent sets such as 76191 Infinity Gauntlet and the just-released 75328 The Mandalorian Helmet.

The drum-lacquer manufacturing technique lends LEGO elements a more metallic appearance than usual. It has become a desirable addition to many different LEGO sets, offering greater accuracy than the pearl gold finish we typically see. Alongside the above mentioned sets, it’s seen frequent use in the Monkie Kid theme. The minifigure below uses the standard pearl-gold finish.

Over the years the LEGO Group has worked to refine the appearance of the fussy protocol droid, usually with more accurate minifigure printing. A drum-lacquered C-3PO would be a massive leap forward for the character design, given the shiny nature of his exterior bodywork. It would also reflect the premium nature of the UCS series, which often features minifigures with exclusive body printing or facial features.

For now, though, this information remains a rumour until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group. In a previous post, this same Instagram user claimed the Star Wars theme would receive its first minidoll later this year – another rumour that has yet to be proven.

In the meantime you can check out all the new sets available at LEGO.com, including a quintet of LEGO Star Wars sets.
